Sandboxer vs Google Agent Platform Sandboxes

Google's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform offers managed sandboxes for code execution, browser-based computer use, shell and custom containers, with TTLs of 7 to 14 days and idle pause/resume. They use container sandboxing inside Google Cloud governance (VPC Service Controls, CMEK). Pick Google if you are already on Google Cloud and need those controls.

Where Google Agent Platform Sandboxes is strong

  • Computer use and Shell sandboxes reached general availability on September 9, 2026.
  • Governance features: VPC Service Controls and customer-managed encryption keys.
  • TTLs of up to 14 days with pause and resume of idle sandboxes.
  • Bring-your-own custom container images.

Where Sandboxer differs

  • Google sandboxes are container-based; Sandboxer provides a full VM with its own kernel.
  • Google's pages checked don't document Docker, nested virtualization, per-port public URLs or hourly pricing.
  • Google ties sandboxes to Google Cloud projects and the Agent Platform; Sandboxer is a standalone API, CLI and SDKs.

Pick Google Agent Platform Sandboxes if

  • You are on Google Cloud and need VPC Service Controls, CMEK or data residency.
  • You need an isolated browser for computer-use agents.

Pick Sandboxer if

  • Each Sandboxer sandbox is a full Ubuntu 24.04 VM with its own kernel, root/sudo, systemd and Docker preinstalled.
  • Stopping saves memory and disk and resume brings running processes back; stopped sandboxes cost nothing.
  • Coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and others) are preinstalled and driven through a prompt API, with an MCP server, REST API, CLI and TypeScript and Python SDKs.
