Sandboxer vs Azure Container Apps

Azure Container Apps runs containerized apps and jobs serverlessly and scales to zero. Its dynamic sessions add Hyper-V-isolated, pooled sandboxes for running untrusted code. They are container-based and ephemeral, not full VMs. Choose it inside Azure; choose Sandboxer for full machines.

Where Azure Container Apps is strong

  • Scale to zero with per-second Consumption billing and a monthly free grant.
  • Pre-warmed session pools allocate sandboxes in milliseconds.
  • Serverless GPUs and deep integration with Azure networking and identity.

Where Sandboxer differs

  • Sessions are ephemeral containers, not persistent full VMs with root and systemd.
  • No documented pause that keeps memory and processes, and no fork.
  • Code-interpreter sessions are limited to built-in runtimes.

Pick Azure Container Apps if

  • You deploy containerized services or jobs on Azure and want scale to zero.
  • You need pooled, quickly allocated sandboxes for LLM-generated code inside Azure.

Pick Sandboxer if

  • You want a full Ubuntu 24.04 VM with root, Docker and nested KVM that stops and resumes with running processes intact.
  • You want coding agents (Claude Code, Codex and others) preinstalled and driven through a prompt API, MCP, REST, CLI and SDKs.
  • You want per-second billing and stopped sandboxes that cost nothing.
