Sandboxer vs Alibaba Cloud ECS
Alibaba Cloud ECS provides virtual machines, GPU, bare metal and supercomputing cluster instances with subscription, pay-as-you-go, spot and reserved billing. You manage the OS and tooling. Sandboxer is a preconfigured agent sandbox VM with memory-preserving stop/resume and fork. Pick ECS for large-scale infrastructure, China and Asia regions or GPUs; pick Sandboxer for an agent-ready VM.

At a glance
= not documented publicly.
Where Alibaba Cloud ECS is strong
- Large global footprint: 31 regions and 107 zones.
- Many billing models: pay-as-you-go, subscription, spot, reserved instances and savings plans.
- GPU, bare metal and supercomputing cluster instance types.
Where Sandboxer differs
- ECS is a general VM service; Sandboxer is a preconfigured agent sandbox with coding agents and an API.
- ECS applies a 2-minute minimum to instances with 4 or more vCPUs; Sandboxer bills per second.
- Memory-preserving pause, fork and per-port HTTPS URLs are not described on the ECS pages reviewed.
Pick Alibaba Cloud ECS if
- You need regions in mainland China or Asia-Pacific.
- You need GPU, bare metal or very large instances.
- You want savings plans and reserved capacity for steady workloads.
Pick Sandboxer if
- You want a sandbox that stops with memory and disk saved and resumes with processes running, with stopped sandboxes costing nothing.
- You want Docker, systemd, nested KVM, SSH and coding agents (Claude Code, Codex and others) already installed, with HTTPS URLs for any port, without assembling it yourself.
- You want a per-second-billed Ubuntu 24.04 VM driven by a REST API, CLI, MCP server or TypeScript/Python SDK.
