Sandboxer vs Azure Container Apps dynamic sessions

Azure Container Apps dynamic sessions are prewarmed, Hyper-V-isolated sandboxes allocated from a session pool by an identifier, built for short-lived code execution. Sandboxer gives each sandbox a full persistent VM with root, systemd and Docker. Pick Azure sessions if you live in Azure and need millisecond allocation; pick Sandboxer for long-lived, stateful agent machines.

Sessions are destroyed after a configurable cooldown with no requests; they are described as ephemeral and short-lived.

Where Azure Container Apps dynamic sessions is strong

  • Prewarmed pools allocate sessions in milliseconds.
  • Hyper-V isolation, with outbound network blocked by default.
  • Available in many Azure regions.
  • Integrates with Microsoft Entra, managed identity and Azure Monitor.

Where Sandboxer differs

  • Sessions are ephemeral and destroyed after a cooldown; Sandboxer sandboxes can stop, resume with processes, and run without a time limit on paid plans.
  • Azure sessions are reached through an authenticated pool endpoint forwarding to one target port; Sandboxer exposes any port as an HTTPS URL.
  • The code interpreter pool is limited to built-in runtimes and a REST surface; Sandboxer is a full Ubuntu VM with root.
  • Azure bills code interpreter sessions in one-hour increments; Sandboxer bills per second.

Pick Azure Container Apps dynamic sessions if

  • You are an Azure shop wanting Entra auth and Azure Monitor.
  • You need subsecond allocation of many short-lived sessions.
  • You need many regions.

Pick Sandboxer if

  • You want a ready-to-use Ubuntu 24.04 VM with Docker, nested KVM and coding agents preinstalled, with no cloud account or networking to set up.
  • You want stop/resume that brings running processes back, instant forks of a disk snapshot, and stopped sandboxes that cost nothing.
  • You want any port exposed as an HTTPS URL and a prompt API, MCP server and SDKs for agents out of the box.
