Sandboxer vs LangSmith Sandboxes
LangSmith Sandboxes are managed isolated environments in the LangSmith platform, built for Deep Agents and LangChain workflows, with filesystem snapshots, authenticated service URLs and self-hosted deployment. Sandboxer is a general full-Ubuntu VM with memory-preserving stop/resume. Pick LangSmith if you already run on LangSmith.

Where LangSmith Sandboxes is strong
- Native fit with Deep Agents and the LangSmith platform; mounts for S3, GCS and Git repos.
- Multiple regions (GCP US/EU/APAC, AWS US) and self-hosted/BYOC options.
- Auth proxy and restricted egress by default for non-Enterprise orgs.
- Per-second metering of vCPU, memory and storage, with a free allowance of 8 LSU of Sandbox usage per month.
Where Sandboxer differs
- LangSmith snapshots omit memory by default (memory capture is REST API only); Sandboxer stop/resume keeps running processes.
- LangSmith pricing lists a 10-sandbox limit on the Developer plan.
- LangSmith is self-hostable; Sandboxer is not.
- Docker, nested KVM and root are not documented for LangSmith sandboxes.
Pick LangSmith Sandboxes if
- You already use LangSmith or Deep Agents and want sandboxes in the same platform.
- You need regions in the EU or APAC or a self-hosted deployment.
- You want sandbox access controls tied to LangSmith permissions.
Pick Sandboxer if
- Each Sandboxer sandbox is a full Ubuntu 24.04 VM with its own kernel, root/sudo, systemd and Docker preinstalled.
- Stopping saves memory and disk and resume brings running processes back; stopped sandboxes cost nothing.
- Coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and others) are preinstalled and driven through a prompt API, with an MCP server, REST API, CLI and TypeScript and Python SDKs.
