Sandboxer vs Google Cloud Build
Google Cloud Build is a managed build service: each build runs a sequence of container steps on a default pool or a private pool. It is a CI product with per-build-minute billing, not an interactive machine. Pick it for builds inside Google Cloud; pick Sandboxer when you need a persistent VM an agent can use.

At a glance
= not documented publicly.
Where Google Cloud Build is strong
- It has a free tier of 2,500 build minutes a month on e2-standard-2.
- Billing is per build-minute, with partial minutes billed by the second and queued time not charged.
- Machine types reach high-CPU sizes such as e2-highcpu-32.
- Private pools add more machine and network options.
Where Sandboxer differs
- Cloud Build is a CI service where builds end; Sandboxer sandboxes are long-lived machines.
- Cloud Build has no pause/resume or fork of a running machine.
- Cloud Build's default pool has no 4 vCPU machine; private pools list e2-standard-4 (4 vCPU / 16 GB) at $0.012 per minute, so there is no exact 4 vCPU / 8 GB price comparison.
- Cloud Build integrates with Google Cloud IAM and artifacts; Sandboxer is cloud-neutral.
Pick Google Cloud Build if
- Your pipeline and artifacts already live in Google Cloud.
- You want per-minute CI billing with a free monthly allowance.
- You need private pools inside a VPC.
Pick Sandboxer if
- You need a full Ubuntu VM with root, systemd and Docker inside a microVM with its own kernel.
- You want stop/resume that keeps running processes and memory, and forks from disk snapshots.
- You want coding agents (Claude Code, Codex and others) preinstalled and driven through a prompt API.
