Sandboxer vs Browserless

Browserless is managed browser infrastructure (Puppeteer/Playwright, BrowserQL, REST) billed in 30-second units. It is not a general VM. Pick it for scraping and automation with stealth and proxies; pick Sandboxer for full Linux environments.

Where Browserless is strong

  • Free tier plus paid plans from $25/month (yearly) with up to 100 concurrent browsers on Scale.
  • Proxies, captcha solving and session persistence are built in.
  • Self-hosting and compliance options (SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA BAA) on Enterprise.

Where Sandboxer differs

  • Browserless sells managed browser sessions; its pricing page lists no root shell, Docker or arbitrary ports.
  • Session length is capped by plan (2 to 60 minutes) versus no limit on Sandboxer paid plans.
  • Billing counts connection time in 30-second units, not machine size.

Pick Browserless if

  • You run high-volume scraping with stealth, proxies and captcha handling.
  • You need a self-hostable or on-prem browser fleet under a commercial license.

Pick Sandboxer if

  • You need a full Ubuntu VM with root, systemd and Docker rather than a browser instance.
  • You want stop/resume that keeps running processes, or CoW forks of a disk snapshot.
  • You want coding agents preinstalled and any port exposed as an HTTPS URL.
